October 12, 2000 - The Illinois Pollution Control Board granted a 30-day provisional variance to Abbott Laboratories for its pharmaceutical manufacturing facility located at 1401 Sheridan Road, North Chicago, Lake County, Illinois. The provisional variance will allow Abbott Laboratories to continue to store a Resource Conservation and Recovery Act wastestream composed of mineral oil, heptane, and less than one percent of a Drug Enforcement Agency control substance while Abbott arranges for a qualified waste management organization to transport and dispose of this substance.

  Document Illinois Pollution Control Board Grants 45-day Provisional Variance to Libbey-Owens-Ford Company

December 26, 2000 - The Illinois Pollution Control Board granted a 45-day provisional variance to Libbey-Owens-Ford Company for its Ottawa glass manufacturing facility located in LaSalle County, Illinois. The provisional variance will allow Libbey-Owens-Ford Company to temporarily use make-up river or well water in its wastewater collection system during sub-freezing weather conditions in order to prevent the wastewater force main from freezing and causing potential pipe ruptures and overflow conditions at the sump.

  Document Illinois Pollution Control Board Grants 45-day Provisional Variance to the City of Batavia

September 22, 2000 - The Illinois Pollution Control Board granted a 45-day provisional variance to the City of Batavia for its wastewater treatment facility located at 100 North Island Avenue, Batavia, Illinois. The provisional variance will allow the city to continue operating its wastewater treatment plant during the expansion of the facility. The work consists of installation of a new clarifier and a new ultraviolet disinfection system. Until the work is completed, the city has permission to operate using only one of its two clarifiers.

  Document Illinois Pollution Control Board Grants Second 45-day Provisional Variance to the City of Wood Dale

September 7, 2000 - The Illinois Pollution Control Board granted a second 45-day provisional variance to the City of Wood Dale for its wastewater treatment plant located at 180 North Brookhurst Lane, Wood Dale, Illinois. The provisional variance will allow the city to continue operating its wastewater treatment plant while necessary repair work is completed. The repair work consists of draining, cleaning, and painting one of its package plants. The Board had previously granted the City of Wood Dale a 45-day provisional variance on July 27, 2000, for this purpose. Due to unanticipated delays, the city was unable to complete the necessary work during the first provisional variance period.
