December 15, 2005 - On December 15, 2005, the Illinois Pollution Control Board sent to second-notice the rulemaking entitled Revisions To Radium Water Quality Standards: Proposed New 35 Ill. Adm. Code 302.307 and Amendments To 35 Ill. Adm. Code 302.207 and 302.525 which contains revised general use water quality standards for radium. Radium is a naturally occurring radioactive metal that is commonly found in Illinois groundwater.
Board Sends Amendments to Radium Water Quality Standards to Second Notice
On December 15, 2005, the Illinois Pollution Control Board sent to second-noticethe rulemaking entitled Revisions To Radium Water Quality Standards: Proposed New35 Ill.
Radium is a
naturally occurring radioactive metal that is commonly found in Illinois groundwater.
The Board retains the standard of 3.75 picocuries per
liter (pCi/L) radium 226 and 228, but sets the standard as an annual average value ratherthan an instantaneous maximum standard.
The Board will accept comments only
from JCAR during the second-notice period.
