  • The egg, embryo, larval, and recently-hatched juvenile life stages of
fish are more sensitive to low DO concentrations than later juvenile and adult stages.
  • Almost all of the participants who have articulated a position in this rulemaking favor
amending the current dissolved oxygen water quality standard for general use waters.
  • Unlike the current DO standard, the proposed amendments take into account the varied DO
requirements of aquatic communities and the diverse range of natural aquatic conditions presentacross Illinois.
