  • Associated with this mine, at which mining operations ceased in
September of 1971, is a 70 acre acid-producing mine refuse pile.
  • Thus treated, the drainage was then channeled to a
settlement pond before final discharge to the unnamed branch ofMacoupin Creek.
  • At that rate, the volume of water
introduced to the 100 acre area by a one-half inch rainfall wouldbe treated in a 24 hour period, and the volume of water similarlyintroduced by 15 inches of rain would be treated in a 30 day period.
