am writing

to ask

you to

deny the

request of the

Peoria Disposal

Company

(PDC)

to

delist electric

arc

furnace

dust

(AS 2008-010).

The

delisting

is a

back

door expansion

of

the

landfill.

This

expansion

was already

denied

by Peoria

County

and

the

Illinois Pollution

Control Board.

I oppose

this delisting

for

several

reasons.

First, it

circumvents

earlier

rulings

denying PDC’s

request to

expand

their

landfill.

Second, the

safety

of what

PDC

is proposing

cannot

be

assured.

Impact

assessment

was

done

in-house

and no independent

agency

verified

the results.

Details

of

their process

are

being

kept

secret. On-site

testing

at proposed

landfills

was not done.

Thirdly,

the

proposal

would simply

shift

the risk

to drinking

water

from

one

aquifer

to

another.

Please

work

with

we

citizens

of central

Illinois

to continue

the

process

of closing

this

unwanted

legacy

and eliminating

further

risks

to the health

and safety

of

our

communities.
