METROPOLITAN WATER RECLAMATION DISTRICT OF
GREATER CHICAGO'
S PRE-FILED
QUESTIONS TO
CARL ADAMS AND
ROBIN
GARIBAY
1.
On Page 11 of your report concerning Financial and Environmental Impact for
Disinfection, what is the design flow that was used to evaluate the financial and
environmental impact for disinfection?
2.
In your
professional opinion,
how would
the cost and impact increase
if the treated flow
were
100 times greater?
3.
How would the chemical usage increase if the treated flow were 100 times greater?
4.
In your report, you state that one of the reasons to choose a closed-circuit cooling tower
for lowering the temperature is that an open-circuit cooling tower has the potential for
fouling.
Do you think that this potential for fouling still exists if the treated wastewater is
disinfected before the cooling, as shown in Figure 6, Bacteria, DO and Temperature
Treatment?
THIS FILING
IS BEING SUBMITTED
ON RECYCLED PAPER
Electronic Filing - Received, Clerk's Office, August 25, 2008

5.
If fouling occurs, does that mean that bacteria will be discharged
to the CAWS
with the
treated wastewater?
