Well, maybe after
they
finish their knitting ....
Several members of the DeWitt County Board are
placing their trust in the Illinois Environmental
Protection Agency {IEPA) to protect DeWitt County
residents from the potential health hazards associated
with allowing a Chemical Waste Landfill and, now, the
treated residue of K061 Electric Arc Furnace Dust, a
TOXIC AND HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCE, to be disposed
of at the Clinton Landfill, which is over the area's water
supply, the Mahomet Aquifer.
The picture below shows three IEPA staff members,
who were the agency's official representatives at the
Illinois Pollution Control Board's public hearing Aug. 18,
2008 in Peoria on hazardous K061 dust disposal. At one
point during the hearing, while members of the public
expressed their concerns, the lady at the right, the IEPA
legal counsel atttending the hearing in an official
capacity, decided her time was better spent catching up
on her knitting.
Is the IEPA an agency that is really concerned
about the health and welfare of DeWitt County residents
or the profits and demands of the hazardous waste
generators and the hazardous waste disposal industry?
