Subject: IPCB Docket R08-9
To the members of the Illinois Pollution Control Board:
I will be in Portland, Oregon for the June 16 hearing on the Chicago Area waterways use
classifications and water quality standards.
I would like to go on record to request that the Illinois Pollution Control Board delay any
decisions about disinfection and water quality standards until the results of the
Metropolitan Water Reclamation District study about recreational user contact with the
waters of the system is completed.
I understand that the costs of disinfection are high to taxpayers, and I want to make sure,
in these uncertain economic times, that we are not making a tax-paying body raise money
for unnecessary projects. If this scientifically-designed study shows a negative impact on
boaters, then I believe the MWRD will go ahead on its own, concurring with what will be
a ruling from IPCB that will be based on solid science.
Sincerely,
Libby Hill
