RE: PCB 08-25 Peoria Disposal Company Permit Appeal
RIVED
Dear Hearing Officer Carol Webb,
DEC 0 3 2007
STATE OF ILLINOIS
Pollution Control Board
I am writing with regard to PCB 08-25 Peoria Disposal
Company's Permit Appeal RCRA. I attended the open hearing in
Peoria. I urge you to uphold the IEPA's decision to deny Peoria
Disposal Company's attempt to circumvent the local siting
authority vested in the Peoria County Board. That board spent
months studying the issue and holding open hearings for the
public. They correctly determined it was not in the best interest
of our community to allow PDC to expand their hazardous waste
dump site and a majority voted NO. So, PDC decided to try to get
around this by claiming they "generate" the waste they bury and
so they don't need the County's permission to expand. This is a
blatant attempt to get their expansion through the back door.
PDC does not "generate" toxic waste. In fact, they bring in
toxic waste by the truckload from 15 states around the Midwest.
They bury this hazardous waste on top of the aquifer that is the
water source for over 250,000 people. This community values its
air, water and land. PDC clearly sees only the dollars it will
generate for them, and not the ill effects of the pollution this
expansion would generate.
Please uphold the IEPA's correct decision on this most
important issue. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Jean Roach
