    water from the River,
    clarifies and filters the
    river water, and dis-
    charges to the River ef-
    fluent containing iron
    and sediments present
    in the river water and re-
    siduals from coagulants
    added during treatment.
    The
    discharges
    are
    done under the authority
    of an adjusted standard
    granted
    by the Board in
    2000, known as AS 99-
    6. AS 99-6 will expire
    on October 16, 2007.
    By its amended petition,
    lllinois-American Water
    seeks an extension to
    AS 99-6 from the efflu-
    ent standards for offen-
    sive discharges
    (35 111.
    Adrn. Code 304.1 06), to-
    tal suspended solids (35
    Ill. Adm. Code 304.1 24),
    and total iron (35 111.
    Adm. Code 304.1 24).
    lllinois-American
    Wa-
    ter's proposed adjusted
    standard will, like

    6, provide that the efflu-
    ent standards at

    to discharges from the
    Alton facility. The pro-
    posed adjusted standard

    conditioned on II-

    compliance

    Great Rivers
    Land Trust
    for implementation of
    the Piasa
    Creek Water-
    ect (a project
    es the amount
    of sediment entering
    streams in the Piasa
    Creek Watershed and,
    ultimately, the Mississip-
    pi), and its entry into a
    contract
    for
    mainte-
    nance of the soil savings
    achieved
    by that Project.
    The proposed adjusted
    standard will last indefi-
    nitely, and will expire if
    the Board determines
    that the conditions of the
    Mississippi
    have
    changed such that the
    adjusted standard is ob-
    solete or infeasible,' or
    if
    the ainount of soil saved
    does not
    Offset the
    amount of
    solids in the
    Alton facility's effluent by
    2 to 1. (based on, 'an
    aveiage of the calendar
    year in question and the
    four preceding years), or
    if the a~ount .of soil
    saved diminishes below
    6,600 tons per year.
