Dear Ms . Gunn,
We understand that the Pollution Control Board's decision deadline regarding
Peoria Disposal Company's appeal has been extended due to the potential for a
"global settlement"
. I am writing to express our concern about the closed door
negotiations occurring between the County and PDC, without involving the public
.
Due to the lack of transparency, the citizens of Peoria County are in the dark about
the terms of the purported deal, or the rational and data utilized to arrive at those
terms .
To the extent that our groups can piece together the PDC/County proposal, it's
disturbingly clear that the terms fall far short of ensuring that the landfill expansion
would be protective of the health, safety and welfare of our citizens and
environment, or that it would be needed or compatible for our community
. After
such a public and fair process just one year ago, we are very concerned about this
current lack of transparency .
Thank you for your consideration .
Sincerely,
Kim Converse
