In reading the web postings for this case, I saw that the May 17 `"

deadline for a

determination has been postponed for what was termed considerations of a "global

settlement."

I would like to point out that there have been no public meetings and there is

no information available to the public regarding a "global settlement

." The local siting act

requires public participation

. A settlement of a local siting case should also have public

participation

. I do not know of anything being proposed in the current settlement that

causes this landfill to be safe for the public health and welfare, that shows this landfill is

needed, or makes it compatible with the local surroundings

.
