To
Whom It May Concern :
We are writing to express
our concern over
the
request
of the Peoria
Disposal Company's desire
to expand its' hazardous
waste landfill .
We donot
want the PDC's request to be
approved by the IPCB . Our
immediate concern is for the safety of our daughter and her family
because they live directly below the PDC's facility
. Not only has PDC
put her and the other residents in that neighborhood in grave danger
;
but also, could take away all that these people have worked so hard to
maintain
- their homes (losing property value), their health and
possibly their lives .
We are also in danger because of the quality of our water supply, which
very likely will be compromised by granting the continued use of this
landfill
. Most of our family lives within fifteen miles of the
facility
. Then there is the rest of the Peoria metropolitan area that
would be affected by this action .

When the landfill leaks into the aquifer (and it will), where do
100,000 plus people get clean, safe water? In the long run, it seems
to us it would be wiser (and probably cheaper) to close this landfill
and clean it up than to allow continued use and have to deal with
expensive health care and lawsuits over the results of keeping this
landfill open .
As a nation of concerned citizens we must find better
ways
to dispose
of all waste materials .
We implore you, the members of IPCB, as responsible citizens who care
about your families to carefully review the issue before hand
. Please
weigh carefully both short-term and long-term affects of your decision
.
We ask that you deny Peoria Disposal Company's request for any
expansion .
S cerely,
JoAnn and David Brooks
