Dear Members of the Illinois Pollution Control Board,
Pollution
STATE OF
control
ILLINOIS
Board
My letter is of grave concern to my family and the citizens of Peoria,
Illinois! We have lived near the landfill belonging to Peoria Disposal
Company, PDC, for the past 36 years
. Year after year hazardous
materials have been dumped in this area
. The area is above the
Sandusky Aquifer, a supplier of precious water to our area
.
The matter at hand is of concern to the health of individuals, wildlife,
and fauna
. No one can be positive that the lining used to contain these
hazardous materials will last
. Mr
. Coulter, owner of PDC, told a group
of concerned citizens that the material in the liner is stronger and more
permanent than the original liners
. This is an indicator to us that the
lining will never be "fool proof"
. The hazardous materials can leach
into the ground at anytime!
The Peoria County Board did not give approval for Peoria Disposal
Company (PDC) to expand their operation
. Now the PDC is appealing
this decision
. Do they feel you will give them the positive nod?
We ask you to dismiss their appeal for the safety of Peoria citizens, both
young and old, and the unborn children who will become the citizens of
our city someday
. The results of this landfill will last an eternity! We
hope you will be a protector of the people in this area!
Sincerely,
Joseph and Mary Mazzola
