Dear Hearing Officer(s) :
It is important that this Hazardous Waste Landfill Appeal be denied
. Yes, because it is over the aquifer from which our
area derives its water, and the close proximity to the Kickapoo Creek which runs into the Illinois River
.
Further, I do not want the Hazardous Waste Landfill to expand over our aquifer, nor do I wish for it to reopen at any
location in the Midwest because this land is undeniably the richest in the world--having been known as the
"Breadbasket of the World"
. Our waterways and rivers, from the Illinois River to the Mississippi with the rich land
surrounding them, all need to be protected
. These resources, not to mention our teeming wildlife-are natural and
priceless gifts from God, and cannot be duplicated-once destroyed
. Why would anyone choose this hallowed ground
for the burial ground of toxic and hazardous waste from 15 other states as an industry? The two are not compatible in
any way and in direct opposition to one another
. You do not protect the very subsistence and existence of the nation by
stockpiling poisons virulent to surrounding life in the heart of its richest lands and waterways
. The balance of nature is
at stake-not to mention our very lives
.
This issue is much greater than a county or state issue
. This is a national and a worldwide issue
.
It is foolhardy to believe that such a huge mound of Hazardous and Toxic Waste can be kept from leaking by plastic
liners--or even by much heavier materials
. The ravages of time, erosion-not to mention tornadoes which are prevalent
in this area would indicate otherwise
. We see what extremes of temperature do to concrete and to our road systems
with the extreme heat of summer and freezing temperatures of winter
. Also, the landfill is very close to a well-known
fault which indicates the possibility of major earthquake whether near or far in our future
.
All of the above reflects the PRESENT threat of catastrophic and imminent danger-even WITHOUT the addition of two
and three times the hazardous waste that is already present, as the Appeal proposes
.
Many prayers have already gone up and continue for wisdom and courage in protecting our national treasure and
livelihood for generations to come, as the Peoria Co
. Board vote affirmed .
Thank you for hearing and heeding the voice of the People of Illinois-of America
.--we need heavenly help as well as
the footwork we each contribute- that God's Will be done in this Appeal
. .
Thank~ you for anything and everything you can do in this matter
.
