Dear Sir or Madam :
I am urging you to reject the expansion of the Peoria County landfill as proposed by the Peoria
Disposal Company
. Landfill expansion would allow the burying of
843 toxic chemicals
in this 74-
acre site for
at least 15 more years .
The EPA allows for the testing of only 20 of these chemicals
.
And to exacerbate the dire effects of the dumping, this landfill is over a shallow aquifer that
supplies most of this area's drinking water
.
I have recently discussed the many cancer problems of my family (my wife's breast cancer and
three different types of cancer in my sister-in-law's family) and the many cancers in both of the
churches we attend with our family physician
. He agreed that there is a "preponderance" of cancer
in our Central Illinois area .
Please consider the health of our community in making your decision about this matter
.
Sincerely yours,
