RE: IPCB 04-186 Waste Management Appeal
Dear Madam:
I am writing to protest the expansion ofa landfill proposed by Waste Management
in Kankakee County. I have watched the proceedings for a number ofmonths and
have come to the conclusion that this expansion would be extremely detrimental to
the people ofthe County.
Just recently, a study was presented that residents in this County have an
inordinately high incidence ofcancer without any real knowledge as to why. There
are no studies which show that any landfill is causing it; conjecture is that chemical
runoffto the water supply may have something to do with it. But
and this is
essential
the landfill is being proposed over the major aquifer that provides
water to our major water supply, and wells for a number offamilies around. Why
would anyone want a landfill over his or her water supply?? Ifthere is a leak, and
sooner or later there will be one, how long before it is discovered, how much
damage can happen, and how can it ever be fixed??
Please do not let this landfill expand. Most citizens are against the landfill
expansion and the board members who are voting for it are doing so only for the
money it represents.
Sincerely,
Carol A. Kelley
