    Waste Management
    vs
    County of Kankakee
    Dear Ms. Gunn,
I’m writing as a private citizen to voice my objection to the
proposed land fill (garbage dump to me) here in Kanakee County.
To start with, Waste Management and the Kankakee County Board
met for three (3) years, excluding the public from participation,
which I believe is in violation of the Illiois Open Meeting
    Act.
Next is the proposed location of the dump. The route to and
from the area would be a direct threat to children living in
that area as their trucks would travel the same route as the
school buses. Children waiting for the bus would be in jeopardy
in the event of even a small accident.
Also, the dump would be situated directly above the major
aquifer, and would become a perilous threat to the water supply
for the entire county as well as for hundreds of private wells
located for hundreds of square miles surrounding that vicinity.
And very important to any and all considerations in this matter,
is the fact that the public at large is bitterly opposed to
this land-fill Driving in the area, one sees many yard sign
objecting to the dump. There is a petition against the dump
signed by four thousand people, gathered in just one week.
However, the county board continues in it’s struggle to get
the proposal passed in spite of the evidence which has been
presented in public meetings by various citizens of the area.
Since there are other, more modern means of disposing of garbage,
and none of which has been inspected by or considered by the
present county board, as a citizen I think the board is doing
the residents of Kankakee County a great disservice. Our
neighboring county, Grundy County, has recently installed a
newer system of disposing of garbage, yet the board hasn’t
bothered to look at it or discuss it with anyone in Grundy

county. I should mention, too, that last spring the board did
vote to dis-allow the dump. Yet other members are still trying
    to get it passed.
I’m directing this letter of complaints to you asking that PEC
give deep consideration to over-ruling Waste Management in their
proposal to build this new garbage dump.
Thank you reading this and giving due consideration to my
    suggestion.
    Sincerely yours,
    O~Iivia Waggon r
