Waste Management appeal Hearings
James R. Thompson Center
100 W. Randolph Street, Ste. 11-500
Chicago, IL 60601
Dear Illinois Pollution Control Board,
I appreciate this opportunity to express my opinion regarding the Waste
Management landfill expansion proposal. The Kankakee County Board, after careful
deliberations, rejected this proposal. I believe their decision was based on a numberof
factors, including environmental impact, need, and public outcry. I support the judgment
ofour County Board
in
opposition to further expansion ofthe landfill.
I nowjoin the voices ofthose who refuse tosee their county turn to refuse forthe
monetary gain of Waste Management or any other company. I can understand whythis
(or any) corporation would endeavor to protect their assets and to ensure healthy returns
on their investments. I appeal to you to consider the families and individuals residing in
Kankakee County. We too endeavor to protect our assets: our land, our water, our air,
and our children. We too hope to ensure a healthy environment forourselves, our
children and theirs.
Dealing with our ownwaste is an issue to be taken seriously. From what I have
read Kankakee County can do that without expansion to the existing facility. The
Kankakee County Board has acted in a manner which they (and I) believe will serve the
best interests ofthe community at large. They have acted responsibly to protect their
public. I appeal to you to do the same. Let their decision stand.
Respectfully,
Dennis D Reddish
