Re:
Docket No. R-04-021
Revisions to Radium Water Quality Standards
Dear Ms. Gunn:
For the past 42 years I have represented various Will County municipalities as they have
struggled with limited resources to meet State and Federal water and wastewater standards with
the goal of improving our health and environment. There is no doubt that today our water
supplies, rivers, streams, and lakes are healthier because of these efforts, and the results have
supported the cost. Unfortunately, the radium water quality standards being considered have not
been shown to improve our health or environment. In addition, the money spent recently by
many Tilinois communities to meet drinking water standards for radium will have been wasted
should standards which cannot be met with their constructed water treatment systems be
implemented.
Therefore, I strongly encourage the Pollution Control Board to consider the cost/benefit ratio of
any standard.
Thank you for this opportunity to provide the Board with my comments.
Sincerely,
JAD/rt
