    STATE OF ILLINOIS
    SALINE COUNTY TREASURER~’S
    OMr~0ntroI
    Board

    March 2, 2004
    To Whom It May Concern,
I am sony that I cannot be attodays landfill hearing, but I would like to presentmy
views in the form ofthis statement.
I was on the Saline County Board and served
    as
    chairman ofthe Landfill Committee
when the 1ai~flin question requested a local siting hearing.
    Thehearing went well and
the committee and board approved the siting permit.
A host agreement was negotiated between Attorney Michael
Oshel and me that was later
approved and signed by both parties.
This agreement proved very beneficial to Saline
    County as the landfill
aid as much as $14,000 per month to the county.
    Even though
now, they accept very little (if any) tras
    ,
the company continues to send us $1,291.66
    per month in tipping fees.
    Some
    in Saline
County government have contended that Midwest still owes money to the
    County.
If it owes us money, of course it should be made to pay.
    I believe some ofthe
    shortfall is
due to a recently discovered typographical error in the agreement regarding
how demolition material was to be measured and paid for.
For the benefit ofSaline County and the way it is perceived by the business community, I
sincerely hope that we are not penalized for some possible miscalculations and payments
made by the former owner of Saline County Landfill by yourboard denying the issuance
    ofthe permit.
Evidently, the IEPA has approvedthe Landfill’s plans.
There is a minimum chance of
contamination ofthe surrounding air or water.
    Hopefully, this board will
    take
    the expert
opinion ofthat agency and award another approval to this siting.
    Saline
County has been denied the income from their host fees for many months as the
Honorable State’s AttorneyRod Wolfand his unpaldassistant continue to appeal the
    siting on technicalities.
Mr: Wolf’s actions are contrary to the people’s wishes that we
have two safe operating landfills in our county.
J*ppreciate your non-political investigation ofthe facts in this hearing and sincerely hope
    that
in a short time Saline County will be the host to two prosperous and safe landfills.
    Yours truly
    Danny R4~ri
