Dear Ms. Gunn:
We do not understand why Rochelle Waste Disposal is appealing the decision ofthe Rochelle
City Council to deny the expansion ofits landfill. The decision was based upon the evidence
presented and made in a fair and unbiased manner. City council members are elected by the
public in order to serve the best interests ofthe community and the decisionto deny expansion
did, in our opinion, exactly that.
The current landfill is already leaking and this may be a threat to the water supply ofthe
Rochelle-Creston area. The Illinois Pollution Control Board should certainly be concerned about
this problem.
The costs ofexpanding the Rochelle landfill, in our opinion, outweigh the benefits, While a few
will make money from this expansion, future maintenance, closure and clean-up costs will be
enormous and will become a heavy burden for local residents and the state.
The expansion is a bad idea and unnecessary for servicing locally-generated garbage. We hope
the Illinois Pollution Control Board will support the decision ofthe Rochelle City Council to
deny expansion. Thank you.
Truly,
c~L~
