Dear Ms. Gunn.
My Husband and I wishto express our opposition to having a Waste Transfer Station at
the Marshall Lowe site on Northwest Highway in Cary, IL.
We live 1
‘/2
miles from the proposed site and we feel that a waste transfer station would
compromise our health. We both suffer from pulmonary problems. Also th~proposed
developments within
~/z
mile ofthe sites would be in jeopardy. Besidesproposed home
development east ofthe proposed site, there is a large area ofland about
1/4
miles south
from the site, that the village hopes will house some food service store (large and small),
restaurants, and small businesses. The possibility ofodor, heavy traffic, noise, sea gulls,
rats, othervermin, etc., would discourage businesses from coming into the area. This
would hinder the growth ofCary and that would not help the much needed taxes that our
town needs. IfCary does not increase the taxbase, as seniors on a fixed income we
would be forced to sell our home and move elsewhere.
Within the ¼mile distance ofthe proposed site is a Cary Water Tower, that provides the
water for a very, very large area ofCary. Any small spill or stormwater run-offwill
contaminate this site. There is within ¼mile to 1 mile, 3 large lakes (Lake Killarney,
Lake Plote and Lake Atwood) that could be contaminated by anyspillage or stormwater
run-off. Close by are wetlands and a large McHenry County Conservation area that
would be affected.
Iffor some reason, Route 14 is closed to traffic, there is no other way to access or exit the
facility.
At the meeting..on August 14, 2003 in Cary, the lawyer for Marshall Lowe tried to
compare Cary to Northbrook, IL. Northbrook has a waste transfer station andhe
presented letters from two (only 2) people that approve ofthe site that is near their home.
Ifthey approve ofatransfer site next to theirhome, that is their concern. Our concern is
Cary IL., and we do not want Marshall Lowe to buildthe transfer station.
