VILLAGE OF PALOS PARK
#72—355
v.
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY
ORDER OF THE BOARD
(BY SAMUEL T.
LAWTON,
JR.)
Petition was filed by the Village of Palos Park requesting
a variance of Rule 502 of Chapter
2, Part V,
to permit the open
burning of leaves within the village.
We find the petition inadequate to satisfy our procedural
rules, but grant the village ten days in which to file a supple-
mental statement which should include the following:
1.
What specific landfill facilities are available in the
vicinity of the village and what ones have expressly
declined to accept leaves;
2.
What alternatives to open burning the village has con-
sidered;
3.
Precisely what costs the village would incur in comply-
ing with the Regulation, particularly with respect to the
purchase of equipment, and why air curtain destructors
or comparable facilities would not be available.
The Agency shall file its recommendation within ten days from
receipt of the additional information.
The 90—day statutory period
in which a variance must be granted will not run until receipt
by the Board of the additional material to be submitted by petitioner.
IT IS SO ORDERED,
I, Christan Moffett, Clerk of the Illinois Pollution Control Board,
certify that the above Order was adopted on the /-~“°dayof Septem—
