SUPPLEMENTAL STATEMENT (by Mr. Dumelle):
The petitioner
has
been ordered by the Board to
investigate and, if feasible, implement a sulfur dioxide abate-
ment program.
The Board’s sister agency, the Institute for Environmental
Quality, has published two reports which may be of assistance.
The Report on Abatement Strategies for Sulfur Dioxide
Emissions from Stationary Sources was published in September,
1971. The second report is titl~d Sulfur Dioxide Control
Process Study- -Sodium Scrubbing with Lime Regeneration and
was done by Arthur D. Little, Inc., in January,. 1972.
In addition to the above reports, the petitioner should
examine the Swedish experience with the AB Bahco unit which
has been used for sulfur dioxide removal from boilers in a
hospital in Stockholm. This is a wet limestone scrubbing
system and is licensed to Research Cottrell in the United States.
It seems available in units that will handle the equivalent
of 8 megawatts (8,000 Kw). (See Board Exhibit 75 in R7l-23).
