    Petitioner,
    v.
    )
    PCB 73—359
    ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY,
    Respondent.
    INTERIM ORDER OF
    THE
    BOARD
    (by Mr. Henss)
    On November 23,
    1971 this Board granted Petitioner
    a variance
    from Sections 201 and 203(1)
    ,
    Chapter
    3, Water Pollution Regulations
in the oneration of its Dresden Nuclear Power Station.
    The Board
    Opinion stated:
“It is our intent at this
    time to allow the variance
until the cooling lake is in operation, but the
Illinois Environmental Protection Act does not allow
    variances longer than one year.”
The variance was subsequently extended until November 23,
    1973.
Ninety days prior to ex~irationof the variance Commonwealth Edison
    filed
    a petition for another extension.
    Hearing on the Petition for
Variance Extension was not held until November 15,
    1973.
    It is
contemplated that the Board decision will be made prior to January
    22,
    1974.
    Commonwealth
Edison has requested an interim extension of
    variance
    pending
    our
    decision,
    and
    we
    believe
    it
    will
    facilitate
    the
handling of the variance petition, and is appropriate,
    to allow the
    motion for interim variance extension.
    It
is therefore ordered that the Motion for Interim Variance
L~xtensionbe allowed and that the variance previously granted with
respect to Sections 201 and 203(i)
    of the Water Pollution Regulations
in the operation of Petitioner’s Dresden Nuclear Power Station be
    extended to January
    22,
    1974.
    Mr.
    Seaman was not present.
    I, Christan L.
floffett, Clerk of the Illinois Pollution Control
Board, hereby certify the above Interim Order was adopted this
