ORDER
OP
THE
BOARD
(by
Mr.
Dumelle):
Petition for variance was filed June
3, 1974 to apply copper
sulfate into the water reservoir to prevent algae growth.
The
Board on June 6,
1974 entered an order requesting data on the copper
concentrations achieved during copper sulfate applications in 1973.
On July 8, 1974 the requested data was supplied by the con-
sulting engineer.
He also asked that the reservoir be exempted
from the need for a variance since it is above the river and not
used by the public.
We do not rule on this request since it can
be handled by the grant of the variance.
The Agency’s recommendation filed July 30 points out that
the Village dosed its reservoir with copper sulfate in 1973 before
it was granted the variance in PCB 73-312.
However it does not
feel that this past action should Jeopardize its application this
year.
Pursuant to the Agency conditions we grant the variance from
Rule 203(f)
to allow copper sulfate dosing of the reservoir.
ORDER
1.
Variance is granted from Rule
203(f) of the Water Pollution
Regulations to permit the use of copper sulfate in the water

2.
Treatments shall be limited to one per month for the months
of June through September, inclusive, not to exceed 10 lbs.
of copper sulfate per treatment.
3.
Copper concentrations in the raw water intake to the treatment
plant shall not exceed 1.0 mg/l.
13—Ill
4.
Measurementl of copper in the reservoir before and after
each treatment and at the raw water intake during such
dosage
shall be i.erformed.
