INTERIM ORDER OF THE BOARD

Goodman):
On June
9,
1976,
the Environmental Protection Agency
(Agency)
submitted its most recent proposal in R 75-11,
a proposal to requ—
late motor racing noise
in Illinois.
The Board has examined the
evidence presented thus
far in R 75—11 and today proposes a revision
to the Agency’s June
9 proposal. .~Basedupon economic data presented
thus
far; public concern expressed as to the potential detrimental
effects the Agency’s proposal could have on the sport of motor
racing,
and technical considerations,
the Board proposes
to grant
all existing motor racing facilities
an extra three—year delay in
compliance wi?h
the muffler requirements and dB(A)
reduction schedule
over and above the compliance schedule incorporated in the Agency’s
proposal.
The Board notes that its proposal is not intended to affect any
other section of the Agency’s proposal,
including the
10:30 p.m.
termination of motor racing activities for which no muffler
is
required.
The Board’s proposed revision of the Agency’s proposal is
hereby authorized for
hearing.
The Board urges the public,
the
Agency,
and the motor racing industry to participate
in hearings
held on its proposal.
