ILLINOIS POLLUTION CONTROL
BC$\~
December 20,
1977
IN THE MATTER OF AMENDMENT TO
CHAPTER 4, MINE RELATED
)
R76-7
POLLUTION,
RULE 704
INTERIM ORDER OF THE BOARD
(by Dr. Satchell):
The Board finds that to date the evidence presented
in this proceeding lacks sufficient information to com-
pletely abrogate the total dissolved solids water quality
standard of the Chapter
4:
Mine Related Pollution Regu-
lations.
To remedy this situation the Board will request
the proponents,
the Illinois Coal Operators Association
and Mid—West Coal Producers Institute,
Inc.,
to present
further evidence concerning the feasibility of the mining
industry controlling TDS through mining methods.
The Board notes that impoundment with controlled
release during periods of high flow in the receiving streams
has been used as a control
in some cases.
Recent studies
suggest that overburden core analysis might be useful in
developing mining methods to partially alleviate TDS problems.
IT IS SO ORDERED.
I,
Christan L. Moffett, Clerk of the Illinois Pollution
Control Board, hereby certify t e above Interim Order was
adopted on the c?~’
