    Respondent.
OPINION AND ORDER OF THE BOARD
    (by J.D.
    Dumelle):
This matter comes before the Board upon an October 15,
    1982
petition for variance filed by the Village of Potomac
    (Village),
    located
    in Vermilion County.
    The Illinois Environmental Pro-
    tection Agency
    (Agency)
filed its recommendation on November 18,
1982 accompanied by a motion to file instanter, which motion is
    hereby granted.
Hearing was waived and none was held.
The Village requests an extension of
    a variance granted on
    December 20,
    1977 in PCB 77—224
    (28 PCB 479)
    which granted relief
from the total dissolved solids limitation of old Rule 408
    (now
    codified as Section 304.124).
A description of the plant and
the reasons for the variance are set out in that earlier Opinion.
    However,
as the Agency points out, effective December 24,
    1981,
the effluent limitation for total dissolved solids
    (TDS) was
    deleted and Rule 918
(codified as Section 309.156) was added
which merely requires monitoring and reporting of
    TDS levels.
    Therefore,
the requested variance is no longer necessary.
The Board notes, however, that the Village should investigate
the need for variance from Section 302.208 which establishes water
quality standards of 1000 mg/i for total dissolved solids and 500
mg/i for chloride which would be enforceable against the Village
through Section 304.105 if its effluent contributes to a violation
    of those standards.
    The present record gives insufficient
information to determine whether such violations exist.
    ORDER
    Proceedings
in this matter are hereby dismissed.
    IT IS SO ORDERED.
