ORDER OF THE BOARD

On January

1980 the People of the State of Illinois

moved the Board to schedule a hearing

or series of hearings

on the regulations proposed

in

R71~9and on the extent of

the Board~spowers and responsibilities under Section 25(a)

of the Act.

The Board hereby authorizes the scheduling

of at least

two inquiry hearings pursuant to Procedural Rule 216 and

Sections

5(b) and 5(d)

of the Act.

The hearings

shall be

held to gather information on the present extent of the

Board~sauthority to adopt procedural rules and substantive

standards

to protect the citizens of Illinois from .the

hazards

of radiation and the environmental consequences of

the construction and operation of nuclear steam-~electric

generating facilities and nuclear

fuel reprocessing plants

and to entertain specific proposals

in this area.
