Opinion of the Board
(by Mr.
Currie)
These are two petitions for open burning of limited amounts
of fuel for firefighting purposes.
As
in similar cases
(e.g.,
Deere
& Co.
v,
EPA
#
70-20,
December
22,
1970), we grant these
two
variances subject
to the conditions recommended by the Agency.
Petitioners
are apparently neighbors and we su~gestthey discuss the
possibility of consolidating their training activities.
DuPage County Airport
is hereby granted permission
to conduct
three sessions of open burning within one year of the date of th±s
order and Masonite Corporation is granted permission to conduct
three sessions within 90 days
of the date
of
this order subject to
the following conditions:
1)
Burning shall
take place only during the hours of
11:00 a,m.
to 4:00 p.m.
2)
Burning shall be conducted only when the wind speed
is
5-20 mph and when the sky is not overcast.
3)
The Agency is
to be notified prior to each session
and
a report is to be filed with the Agency within
60 days
of the
last session briefly describing each
training session.
Each description should state the
number of trainees attending,
the types and amounts
of combustibles burned,
the date and time of burning,
the total duration of burning and smoke emission and
a description of weather conditions.
I,
Regina E.
Ryan,
Clerk of the Pollution Control Board,
certify
that the Board adopted the above Opinion
this
13
day of Aug.
