BOARD ADOPTS GASOLINE VOLATILITY REGULATION
FOR 1991
On January 10, 1991, the Board adopted regulations
pertaining to gasoline volatility for the summer ozone season
of 1991. The rule is very similar to the federal regulation
which is scheduled to take effect in 1992. Because the
Chicago metropolitan area remains a non-attainment area for
ozone, the Board felt it necessary to have a regulation in place
for the summer of 1991. The rule was proposed by the
Chicago Lung Association and the USEPA, the State EPA and
the Illinois Petroleum Council all participated in the rulemaking
process. The regulation is expected to reduce ozone
precursors by 66 tons per day. Questions should be directed
to Timothy Dwyer at (312) 814-6923.
