ILLINOIS POLLUTION CONTROL BOARD
May
 2,
 1985
CITY OF AURORA,
Petitioner,
V.
 )
 PCB 85-51
ILLINOIS ENVIRONMENTAL
PROTECTION AGENCY,
Respondent.
ORDER OF THE BOARD
 (by
 1. Anderson):
This petition, filed April 19,
 1985,
 requests variance from
the
 5 pCi/i
 combined radium standard of
 35
 Ill. Adm. Code
604.301(a).
As
the petition waives hearing and appears
 to provide
adequate information
 in support of the request,
 the petition will
be forwarded to the Agency
 for
 its Recommendation.
The Board notes,
 however, that
 in its experience
 a community
in violation of
 the
 radium standard
 is often
 in Violation of
 the
15 pCi/i
gross alpha particle activity limitation of
 35
 Iii. Adm.
Code 604.301(a);
 the monitoring
 for radium is triggered by
exceedance of the gross
 alpha standard pursuant
 to Section
605.106.
 In the event
 that such
 is the case,
 the City would
 be
advised to make
 an early amendment to
 its petition (accompanied
by monitoring data)
 requesting relief from the gross
 alpha
standard,
 so as
 to allow the Board
 to consider
 in one proceeding
all parameters
 for which
 the City may need variance
 to continue
operation of
 its water
 supply.
IT
 IS SO ORDERED.
