Dear Sirs! Madams,
Pollution Control Board
I am writing in regard to the Waste Management Appeal Hearing Case ~-l86.
reside in Kankalcee County about four miles from the site ofthe existing andfihl to w •ch
Waste Management is requesting a significant expansion. I would like to express my
deep concern about this expansion and any other potential landfill being developed in that
area. I have a well from which my family and I rely on for potable water and I am
greatly concerned about the quality ofwater should the landfill be allowed to expand. It
is my understandingthat the landfill would be situated directly over the aquifer that
supplies ~y well. Any leakage from the landfill into that aquifer would be disastrous for
Our community, hi addition, the landfill is adjacent to Minnie Creek, which empties into
the Iroquois river a feW miles upstream from where the city ofKankakee and surrounding
coit’mji~itiesgets their water. Runoffinto this creek could be devastating to these
cotnmtmiti’es that rely on Kankakee River water as their only water source. It just seems
to me to be a very bad idea to risk damaging or destroying the water supplies for over
100,000 people andrisk the future ofthe entire area. The site in question is not an
appropriate site for any form oflandfill expansion or development and I sincerely ask you
to prevent any expansion or new landfills on this site. Thank you for your consideration.
Yours truly,
Richard
