Dear Ms. Gunn:
The Dement Township Planning Commission was appointed by the Dement Township Board to
plan and develop growth that is in the best interest ofthe Township.
We solidly support the decision made by the Rochelle City Council as siting authority to deny the
application for expansion of a Pollution Control Facility made by Rochelle Waste Disposal.
The
expansion ofthe landfill would be inconsistent with our comprehensive plan for Dement Township and it
would create constraints for proper growth.
The proposed expansion would severely limit residential development to the south and west of
Creston. In addition, we feel that four of the nine siting criteria were not met: Criteria 1, Need; Criteria
2, Health, Safety and Welfare; Criteria 3, Compatibility with Surrounding Area; and Criteria 6, Traffic.
We are also concerned with maintaining the quality ofwater in our area wells.
For these reasons, the Dement Township Planning Commission would like to be on record as
strongly supporting the decision made by the Rochelle City Council as siting authority to deny the
Application for Siting Approval of a New Regional Pollution Control Facility because the expansion is
not in the Township’s best interest. We believe it would be very detrimental to the Township’s future
generations.
We recommend the members of the Illinois Pollution Control Board uphold the decision by the
Rochelle City Council.
Sincerely,
._~
