Re: Rochelle Waste Disposal
L.L.C. Vs. City Council of
the City of Rochelle, IL.
Case
#
PCB 03—218
As residents of the Rochelle community we do not believe the landfill
should be enlarged., It is too close to the City of Rochelle and the
village of Creston and properties nearby. It is located in the
corrider that is growing and will, at some time, extend from Chicago
to the River and beyond.
We think it’s unlikely that anyone would want to build a home or
locate a business with a landfill in their backyard. We also feel
that the liners used in landfills will i~iot last.forever. Everything
man made has a life span. It may not affect this generation or the
next, but sometime in the future a generation that had nothing to do
with the location will have to cope with the problem. It’s like
sweeping your p~ob1emsunder the rug
——
short time planning.
The people that are promoting this enlargement will probably be gone
before problems develop. No one who owns property or pays taxes
wants this expansion or the garbage created by Chicago and the
surrounding areas. We face garbage trucks and gravel trucks every
day going to and from Rochelle hauling garbage to Amboy, IL and gravel
to the new Intermodal facility. We are not opposed to growth but
growth to benefit many not a chosen few.
It is our hope that the Pollution Board will listen to the many people
in this area who are against this expansion. Thank you for your
consideration of this case.
