Subject:
Case PBC 2006-184
We are against the expansion of the PDC landfill due to the proximity of toxic
waste to our drinking water supply
. Long term, an earthquake or other natural event
could break any type of installed liner and cause severe contamination to the aquifer
. At
some point in time, this landfill will probably be totally excavated due to its dangerous
location .
Other methods must be found to deal with the hazardous waste generated and sent
to the PDC landfill . Reducing the toxicity by treatment and then burying large amounts
of this toxic mass adjacent to a primary drinking water supply and regional asset is not
the answer
.
We support the Peoria County Board's decision to deny the request for a
hazardous waste landfill expansion .
