ILLINOIS ENVIRONMENTAL

PROTECTION AGENCY,
Respondent.
ORDER OF THE BOARD (by J. Anderson):
On March 14, 1990, the City of Batavia (Batavia) filed a
response to a March 8, 1990 Order of the Board that included a
request that the parties provide all available radiological
analyses of Batavia’s water supply and to address what appears
presently a discrepancy in data as compared to an Agency computer
print out document identified by the Board.
Batavia’s response contained additional test results and a
1990 Illinois State Water Survey Report. Batavia also stated
that it had not seen the computer print out, but would request a
copy from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Agency).
In order to allow this proceeding to proceed expeditiously,
the Board requests that the Agency, in its Recommendation,
address the discrepancy question. We also request the Agency to
identify where in the distribution system radium samples have
been taken, and why those particular locations were chosen. We
also request the Agency to clarify how the present use of the
wells, particularly Well #3, may differentially affect the radium
concentrations in the water as delivered to the various parts of
Batavia’s service area.
The Board hopes that the Agency will be able to file its
recommendation expeditiously; after the Board receives the
Agency’s Recommendation, it will consider whether or not a
hearing may be necessary.
IT IS SO ORDERED.
B. Forcade concurred.
