Dear Clerk of the Board:
I am a member of Peoria
Families
Against Toxic Waste
and am writing
to express my
strong
opposition of Peoria
Disposal
Company’s
request to delist
electric arc furnace
dust
to allow
the
disposal of that waste
in any Illinois
municipal landfill
without regard
to
specific
local conditions.
The
treatment process PDC
would utilize
has not been independently
tested, nor has
any
long-term
testing been completed.
There has
also
been no
testing in actual municipal
waste
landfills where waste
would be
disposed
of.
During a time in
which our global community
is becoming
more and more
aware of and
sensitive to
environmental
and
health
concerns related to
hazardous waste
treatment and
disposal, allowing
this delisting
would launch Peoria
County,
our
state, and our country
backwards rather
than forwards, and
would also
set a dangerous precedent
at a time
when
we need
to be ever more vigilant
in protecting
the health, safety and
welfare
of
our
citizens.
Not only does
this
delisting not stand
up to scientific
testing rigor, but it
defies
common sense.
Please deny Peoria
Disposal
Company’s request
to delist
EAF. Thank you for
your
consideration.
Sincerely,
27&
