OPINION AND ORDER OF THE BOARD
(by Mr.
Dumelle)
Petition was filed May
9,
1973 to obtain
a variance from the
sewer connection ban in the North Shore Sanitary District to connect
the Scott home
at
2407 14th Street
in North Chicago
to the sanitary
sewer.
On May 10 the Board asked
for more information on this situa-
tion.
No hearing was held.
On May 30
a letter was received from the Lake County Board
of Health stating that the ‘~soilhas severe
limitations, with
impervious clay subsoil.t’
The letter also states that septic effluent
is surfacing in
a roadside ditch, flowing through
a culvert and
then on the ground in
a wooded area near a housing project.
This Board has recognized the dangers to the public from
septic effluents which may contain viruses of hepatitis or polio
and other disease causing
organisms.
The variance
is granted and
connection is permitted to the sanitary sewer.
IT IS SO ORDERED.
I, Christan L. Moffett, Clerk of the Illinois Pollution Control
Board,
