I am writing to urge you to support the IEPA mercury rule to reduce power plant mercury

emissions by 90% by 2009 .

Mercury is a known neurotoxin that already contaminates fish in all Illinois waters-and its

main source is coal-fired power plants . Studies have shown that mercury exposure harms the

human brain, heart, and immune system. Developing fetuses and children are especially at

isk as even low-level mercury exposure can cause learning disabilities, developmental delay

and decreased 10

Modern, inexpensive pollution controls can capture 90% of the mercury from power plants

port the rule to make it clear that puffing our children at risk for brain

damage is not an acceptable cost of doing business in Illinois

Estoy escribiendo para pedirles que apoyen la ley del

mercurio de la IEPA para reducir las emisiones de mercurio de las

plantas de energla por un 90% para el 2009

Mercurio as conocido como un toxico de la neurona que

ya esta contaminando el pescado en todas las aguas de Illinois-y

su mayor proveedor es la plantas de energia de carbon. Estudios

han demostrado qua la exposici6n al mercurio dada el cerebro

humano, el coraz6n y el sistema inmunol6gico . El desarrollo de

fetos y los nirios estbn especialmente en riesgo, hasta con la

exposici6n a un nivel minimo de mercurio puede causar

disabilidades de aprendizajo, retraso en e1 desarrollo y disminuye el

nivel de inteligencia qua una persona tiene al nacer

.

Controles de contaminaci6n moderns pueden retener

90% del mercurio qua sale de las plantas eledricas. La ley de la

IEPA simplemente requeriria qua las plantas eloctricas de carbon

usen esta nueva tecnologia . Por favor apoye la ley para hacer claro

qua poniendo a nuestros hijos en riesgo de sufrir daft del cerebro
