    v.

    ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY
    Opinion of the Board
    (by Mr. Currie):
    As
    in Lake County Forest Preserve District
    V.
    EPA, ~7lā€”64
    (April
    28,
    1971),
    we
    are asked to allow the open burning of
    vegetation
    in wildlife areas
    for ecological research
    and
    management purposes.
    For reasons given in that opinion we grant
    the
    petition subject to conditions stated below and suggested
    by the Agency,
    Burning serves important naturalistic purposes
    in these cases, and the areas to be burned are relatively small
    and remote.
    ORDER
    The Illinois Natural History Survey is hereby granted
    a
    variance to allow
    the open burning
    of the following areas:
    120 acres
    in the Sam Dale Conservation Area, Wayne
    County;
    10 small plots in the Stephen
    A,
    Forbes State
    Park, Marion County;
    25 acres
    in
    the Marion County Prairie
    Chicken Sanctuary;
    and 100
    acres
    in the Jasper County Prairie
    Chicken Sanctuary,
    subject to the following conditions:
    1)
    burning shall
    take place only between 10
    a.m. and
    4
    p.m.
    and only when weather conditions assure maximum
    dispersion and
    minimum impact on adjacent properties;
    2)
    burning shall be completed by December
    31,
    1971;
    3)
    a report shall
    be
    filed with
    the Agency advising when
    the burning is completed and giving the circumstances and de-
    tails of the burning.
    I,
    Reging
    E.
    Ryan, Clerk
    of the
    Board, certify that the Board
    adopted
    the above Opinion this
