ORDER OF THE BOARD
(by Mr. Dumelle)
The City of Mt. Olive by a letter received March
29, 1973
requests permission to use copper sulfate to prevent algae
growths
in its two water reservoirs.
No information
is
given
as
to fre-
quency or amount of dosage or the resulting copper content of the
water.
No information
is give as
to the possible use of alterna-
tives
to copper sulfate.
The City of Waverly in a letter dated March
22,
1973 also
asks permission to use copper sulfate but not only does not give
dosage amounts or frequencies nor does
it give resulting copper
levels in the water.
And no information is given
as
to why
alternatives besides copper sulfate cannot be used.
Both variance applications
are clearly inadequate.
Mt.
Olive and Waverly are given
35 days
in which
to amend their peti-
tions
to provide the necessary information.
The Agency
is asked
to provide the petitioners with prior Board opinions on the subject
as
a guide
(see City of LaHarpe,
et al, PCB 72-168, August
8,
1972
and City of Paris,
et al, PCB 72-277,
August 15, 1972.)
If the
amended petition is not received within
35 days
it shall be sub-
ject
to dismissal.
The 90
days within which the Board shall make
a decision will run from the date of filing of the amended petition.
