ILLINOIS POLLUTION CONTROL BOARD
August 28, 1975
IN THE MATTER OF:
R74—5
PROPOSED AMBIENT AIR QUALITY
)
STANDARD FOR TOTAL MERCURY
)
ORDER OF THE BOARD
(by
Mr. Henss):
On June
7,
1974 a proposal was filed with the Pollution
Control Board requesting the adoption of an ambient air
quality standard
for total mercury.
Subsequently, the
Proponent Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, requested
that hearing dates not be scheduled until after the Agency
had made further preparation for establishing
a standard
for total mercury
in air.
The Environmental Protec~tionAgency
now requests that its proposal be withdrawn without prejudice.
Research
in this area is not sufficiently advanced
to enable
the Agency
to proceed with its proposal and the Agency now
states that its 1974 proposal was premature.
The Agency would
like to~leave open the possibility of proceeding with such a
proposal for an ambient air quality standard for total mercury
when more data has been accumulated and evaluated.
The motion
will be allowed.
It is Ordered
that the proposal for adoption of an ambient
air quality standard for total mercury be dismissed without
prejudice.
