ILLINOIS POLLUTION CONTROL BOARD

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY,
Complainant,
v.
)
PCB 76—124
GRANITE CITY STEEL,
a division of
NATIONAL STEEL CORPORATION,
Respondent.
SUPPLEMENTAL STATEMENT
(by Mr. Dumelle):
The suspended particulate levels quoted by Mr. William
Dallas for the moni~oron his home are quite high
(R.
99)
.
The
reading of
753 ug/m
and other values of 420 and 442 ug/m3 he
reported exceed the Illinois and United States air quality standard
of 260 ug/m3
(for a 24—hour period)
by
190,
62,
and 70
res-
pectively.
We do not know,
on this record, whether air quality standards
will be met everywhere even after the expenditure of the $17,500,000
control program.
The control program proposed ought to go forward
with the utmost speed to achieve maximum relief for all of Granite
City.
But after completion, the area of the Dallas instrument
location especially should be checked to determine
if it is
in
conformance with the air quality standards.
Air quality standards
still govern even
if specific Board emission regulations are met.
